"Bois Ginette”

Make way for endemic tree species!

Welcome to "Bois Ginette"!

"Bois Ginette" is a small wooded area in the “Gîte des Combres”. Here we have cut down the invasive Maritime Pine, which was introduced during mining to line the tunnels. After the mines were abandoned, the Maritime Pine took over the area to the detriment of endemic species, mainly deciduous trees, which will be able to grow there again. We left the endemic Salzmann and Scots Pines behind.

We have also planted more than a hundred broadleaved trees on the estate: Alisiers, Erables, Chênes Verts, Hêtres, Bouleaux, Robiniers, Noisetiers and various fruit trees.
This action has several positive consequences:
- certain melliferous species will delight bees and other insects,
- small fruits and nuts to meet the needs of birds and small mammals,
- Birch is a natural repellent against pine processionary caterpillars,
- replacing conifers with broadleaved trees reduces the risk of fire...

This project was made possible thanks to the generosity of my dear Aunt Ginette (after whom it is named) and the invaluable help of Frédéric, Paul and Barnabé. Many thanks to them all!

We hope you enjoy your walks in these forests of the Cévennes Ardéchoises. Located in the heart of two nature reserves, the Parc National des Cévennes and the Parc Naturel Régional des Monts d'Ardèche, classified Natura 2000, you will be walking in a protected natural environment. Thank you for preserving this wonderful nature and for not leaving any rubbish behind.

Remember to use the ‘Merlin Bird ID’ API to discover and recognise the many birds that live here by their song, and ‘PlantNet’ to identify the flora.
Don't forget your binoculars.
